Benefits & Applications of Magento 2 Subscription & Recurring Payments extension

The Subscription and Recurring Payment extension enables stores to allow users to subscribe for a product one time and receive it on a scheduled basis, for example, every week or every month.

Payments will be automatically generated from the bank account or paid in cash if COD on a regular basis.

With this e-commerce model, store owners can help customers to save a lot of time with the automation of fulfillment, at the same time, generate a steady revenue stream over time.

The reasons

Customers have a tendency to not spend a large amount of money on something that will be delivered in the future to avoid the risk of uncertainty. Therefore, one of the smartest ways to make your revenue stable and predictable is to offer subscription-based products or services.

The subscription model enables customers to automate an aspect of their life (for example, foods, commodity goods, etc.).

Therefore, it helps keep the current customers “automatically” and repeatedly using your products and not being distracted by other brands.

Benefit for Magento 2 stores

With Magento 2 stores, this extension will help:

  • Stabilize revenue stream period by period
  • Reduce cost on getting new customers
  • Build long-lasting customer relationship
  • Innovate products or services efficiently
  • Manage product stock more efficiently
  • Cross-sell when offering a subscription "box";

Boost conversion rate because of payment convenience (Stripe, Paypal, Amazon Pay, COD, etc.)

Enrich customer loyalty with benefits such as free shipping, free trials, or discounted subscription cycles)

Leverage shopping experience with advanced management features such as choosing subscription end day, a reminder for bill due day, a reminder for remaining trial days, etc.

Help admin to quickly create enticing subscription plans with flexible admin's features and configuration

Keep track of subscriptions and subscribers easily by a comprehensive management grid

Use Case #1: Food & beverage services

This is one of the most common use cases due to its regular needs. Customers are having less time selecting their own food or drink frequently, therefore, they prefer subscription services that serve complete packages in scheduled time.

It can be used to provide catered selections based on different diet types. You can also upsell and cross-sell easily because customers are willing to pay more for personalized demands. For example, more vegan, paleo, or gluten-free options can be offered.

Use Case #2: Apparel & Beauty subscription boxes

Clothing, skincare products, and personal hygiene items are often sold in monthly subscription boxes. In this case, what makes it different is that it focuses on convenience and excitement when customers receive a box with surprising products.

Brands can also track the behaviors and predict customers’ preferences for better inventory management. Besides, new products can easily be promoted by giving as a part of the surprising box.

Use Case #3: Membership services

You may have seen many examples of service membership, such as gym-based fitness membership, or content streaming services. Buyers choose to pay for the subscription because they have to use these services for a long time, and subscribing will save them more than a one-time payment.

Content streaming services usually choose a subscription and recurring payment methods to showcase their value-based pricing strategies. Their unique, frequently-updated content is their main offer. Merchants tend to upsell easily by offering more expensive packages with extra benefits.
