The package will contain two steps (Download & Contribute and Install) to point out how you can apply German Language on the storefront and backend of Magento 2 store. All phrases are contributed by Magento 2 translation project at Crowdin.

There are two compressed versions of German Language Pack for Magento 2. If you want to install manually, just download .zip or tar.gz version to your computer, then install it on your Magento store.

How to activate the language pack
It’s time to activate the language pack for your Magento 2 store.
- Step 1: From Magento 2 admin panel, navigate to
Stores > Configuration > General > Locale Options - Step 2: Select
German (Germany)and clickSave Configuration

How to Install German Language Pack
Method #1. Install via Composer
Install the German language pack via composer is really easier.
Install German pack:
composer require mageplaza/magento-2-german-language-pack:dev-master mageplaza/module-smtp
php bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy de_DE
php bin/magento indexer:reindex
php bin/magento cache:clean
php bin/magento cache:flush
You may get this message:
=> Go to Access Keys page and Create A New Access Key.
Update German pack:
composer update mageplaza/magento-2-german-language-pack:dev-master
php bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy de_DE
php bin/magento indexer:reindex
php bin/magento cache:clean
php bin/magento cache:flush
Method #2. Install via command line
Install the German language pack via command line.
Download the language file to your installation root directory. Now run the following command:
wget https://github.com/mageplaza/magento-2-german-language-pack/raw/master/de_DE.csv
php bin/magento i18n:pack -m replace de_DE.csv de_DE
php bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy de_DE
php bin/magento cache:flush
As a result, a directory language pack will be created, which contains the proper structure of language files for your installation. Copy it over to your Magento installation and the translation should be visible.
Note: additional directory i18n contains strings for which the module could not be found in your installation. This file can be skipped.
